The workshop underlines the importance of understanding the concept of sustainable mining, “developing a country’s mineral and energy resources in a way that maximizes economic and social benefits while minimizing environmental impacts” and the relationship to sustainable goals.
The training takes a realistic look at the raw material needs for new technologies, what kind of materials and mining is needed now and what materials we will need more intensively in the future, obviously paralleling the environmental impacts and costs of extraction.
Participants will become familiar with relevant terms and definitions, such as sustainable mining, digital mine, raw materials, critical resources, new technologies.
– Participants will learn to identify what materials are needed for example for the manufacture of a battery and where the materials are sourced.
-Participants will understand the importance of circular economy policies and the challenges for the future.
